Hey there. Today is just a quick post to let you know of a great side hustle I have been experimenting with. I actually started this about six months ago and just played around with it for the first month. Then I decided to get more serious and worked it quite a bit harder. The results were very good.
I was spending approximately 16 hours per week on eBay and had gotten my sales up between $800 and $1200 per month, but then I fell and broke my back. I’ve been wearing a back brace for the past seven weeks but only have one week to go and I started working on eBay again last week.
My sales did drop for the two months I didn’t work it but I still sold around $300 to $500 per month just from old inventory. This really made me realize I may have found something I can work hard most of the time and yet still make money when sick or on vacation!
Now total sales are not the net sales but I was profiting around 45% of the gross sales after eBay fees and the cost of goods. I was totally happy with that but still, feel I can do better. There is a lot to learn but it’s a great “earn while you learn” program.
As of today, I have 420 items in my eBay store. It’s important to get an eBay store once you have 50 to 100 items listed because it saves you lots of money off the eBay fees. As a store owner, you get a lot of free listings each month without any insertion fees. They will give you usually 50 free listings before getting an eBay store, but once those are used up you have to pay for any future listing.
Here is a snapshot of my total sales for the past 90 days. Remember that 50 of those days I was down with a broken back and didn’t work eBay.
As you can see the past three months I only had sales of $1,127.72 which were down 37.5%. Now that I’m up and able to work again I’m anxious to see what I can do the next three month.
As this experiment continues I’ll bring you updates on how this side hustle is going and if I think it’s a good fit for me. My goal is to get up to 1000 listings in my store and hopefully that will generate a decent income from this side hustle of at least $2000 per month.
